3.1 SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS FOR DRAGONFLIES

The Libellula software and modules have specific technical requirements in addition to those of the standard client configuration, due to the intensive graphical and geometric processing required by the integrated CAD/CAM engine.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

  • RAM: minimum 8 GB dedicated to the process / 32 GB+ recommended
  • GPU: minimum 256 MB VRAM / recommended 2 GB dedicated VRAM
  • Free space: at least 10 GB on an SSD for working and temporary files
  • RS232 port: required solely for connection to legacy machines

OPERATIONAL NOTES

To ensure optimal performance with Libellula software and modules, we recommend that you do not run resource-intensive applications at the same time (such as rendering, active virus scans or backups).

A dedicated GPU is strongly recommended for viewing complex 3D models, multi-component assemblies and machining simulations. Using integrated GPUs can cause significant slowdowns in rendering and computation.

The RS232 connection is only required for older CNC machines that do not have an Ethernet or USB interface. For modern machines, the use of standard network interfaces is recommended.

  1. DATABASE SERVER REQUIREMENTS

The database server is a distinct component, separate from the application server. It hosts the Libellula suite’s data management engine, including production databases, processing history, configurations and operational data. The performance of the database directly affects the responsiveness of the entire suite.

MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

  • CPU: 4 dedicated cores (physical or guaranteed virtual)

  • Backup: daily schedule with review
  • Network: Gigabit Ethernet to the application server

RECOMMENDED CONFIGURATION

  • CPU: 6–8 cores dedicated to high performance
  • RAM: 64 GB DDR4/DDR5 ECC or higher
  • Storage: Enterprise NVMe SSDs ≥ 1 TB
  • RAID: RAID 10 with a dedicated hardware controller
  • OS: Windows Server 2022: updated and monitored
  • Backup: multiple, automatic, off-site or on a separate NAS
  • Network: Dedicated Gigabit Full Duplex

HISTORICAL DATA AND GROWTH

When sizing storage, you must take into account the growth of historical data over time. It is recommended that you plan for at least three years’ worth of estimated production data growth before the initial sizing. Put in place regular archiving procedures to maintain database performance over time.

PERFORMANCE AND LATENCY

The database server must be accessible from the application server with a latency of less than 1 ms. The use of slow storage (mechanical HDDs, Wi-Fi-connected NAS devices) is incompatible with the suite’s performance requirements and may cause timeouts, data corruption and application malfunctions.

BACKUP AND RESTORE

Database backups must be scheduled at least once a day, with automatic verification of the integrity of the backup files. The recovery procedure must be tested periodically. The provider is not liable for any loss of data resulting from non-compliant or unverified backups.

  1. VIRTUAL ENVIRONMENTS

The Libellula suite can be installed and operated in virtualised environments, provided that the technical requirements set out in this document are met and that the virtual environment delivers performance equivalent to that of a dedicated physical system.

DEDICATED AND GUARANTEED RESOURCES

The CPU, RAM and storage resources allocated to VMs hosting components of the Libellula suite must be dedicated and guaranteed. Excessive overcommitment of CPU or RAM is not permitted. Resources must be reserved at hypervisor level to ensure consistent performance.

HIGH-PERFORMANCE STORAGE

VM storage must be on SSD or NVMe media. The use of mechanical HDD storage or slow NAS is incompatible with the suite’s requirements. The virtual datastore must guarantee IOPS and latency equivalent to those of a dedicated physical SSD.

VM SEGREGATION

Where the architecture requires it, VMs must be separated into application servers, database servers and integration services. Running multiple critical roles on the same VM is not recommended and may compromise system performance and stability.

SNAPSHOTS AND BACKUPS

VM snapshots are in no way a substitute for backing up application and database data. Snapshots should be used exclusively for short-term maintenance operations. Backups must be performed using dedicated tools and verified on a regular basis.

Supported hypervisors: VMware vSphere/ESXi, Microsoft Hyper-V, and equivalent professional hypervisors. The use of non-professional virtualisation solutions or those not supported by the vendor may invalidate the terms of technical support.

  1. NETWORK REQUIREMENTS — WIRED NETWORK

The network infrastructure is critical to the proper functioning of the Libellula. suite. The network requirements set out in this section are to be regarded as necessary and non-negotiable conditions for the validity of technical support and the software’s performance guarantees.

The use of Wi-Fi, Powerline, MoCA or any form of hybrid wired/wireless connection is strictly prohibited for systems on which the Libellula suite is installed, running or being used. Failure to comply with this requirement constitutes non-compliance of the Customer’s infrastructure and relieves the supplier of all liability for malfunctions, data loss or performance degradation.

MINIMUM WIRING STANDARD

Cat5e — The minimum acceptable standard for new installations. Supports Gigabit Ethernet up to 100 metres. Accepted only where no alternatives are available and subject to verification of actual performance.

RECOMMENDED WIRING STANDARD

Cat6 or higher — The recommended standard for all new installations. It ensures stable Gigabit performance, reduced electromagnetic interference and greater scope for future infrastructure expansion.

SUITABLE NETWORK SWITCHES

All systems must be connected via professional-grade managed or unmanaged network switches with Gigabit Ethernet ports. Network hubs or low-quality consumer switches are not permitted.

MAXIMUM PERMITTED LATENCY

The latency (ping) between the client and the server/shared resource must be ≤ 1 ms under idle network conditions. Jitter must be ≤ 1 ms. Higher values indicate that the infrastructure does not comply.

PERFORMANCE CHECK

The Customer is required to check the actual network performance prior to installation and periodically during operation. The supplier may request documentation of the measurements should any anomalies be reported.

7.1 TRANSMISSION SPEED AND MODE — GIGABIT FULL DUPLEX

All network infrastructure components involved in the operation of the Libellula suite must operate in Gigabit full-duplex mode. This requirement applies without exception to all network devices within the infrastructure.

SWITCH PORTS

All network switch ports used for Libellula systems must be configured or auto-negotiated to 1000 Mbps full-duplex. Ports operating at 100 Mbps or in half-duplex mode are not permitted.

CLIENT NETWORK CARDS

All network interface cards in client workstations must be Gigabit Ethernet and configured to operate at 1000 Mbps full-duplex. Network interface cards built into laptops or consumer systems must be checked prior to installation.

SERVER NETWORK CARDS

Application and database servers must be equipped with server-grade Gigabit network cards or higher. It is recommended that there be at least two network cards to ensure redundancy and the separation of application traffic.
